Breen's Mathematical Art
My mathematical art tries to challenge what we usually perceive mathematics to be. I present mathematics in all it's raw imperfection, in stark contrast to the rigid notion that mathematics is beautiful and important, which scientists would have us believe. I present the ugly side of mathematics.
The only example of my work online is the following exhibit.

The theme of this work is dialogue. The audience must enter into a dialogue with the equation, just as the two numbers in the equation are in a constant dialogue with each other. The very essence of the equation screams out that this is ugly, and makes us uncomfortably aware of our own perception of what art and mathematics are, and our relation to them, as we engage with both the equation and the space around it.
The contradictory nature of the equation has parallels with our own place in modern society, where we constantly fight to control our environment, and to make all equations fit our perception of what life should be like. Yet we cannot escape the fact that the equation is unbalanced, just as we cannot escape our destiny.
More than anything, the equation proves that mathematicians and scientists are not always right.
